About Me
I have come to realize my initials mean more to me than just a name, they remind me of who I am and what I want to do. I am currently an intern for the Causecast Community Management Team. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Studio Art with an emphasis in Art History. I bartend at the Yardhouse in Long Beach. In my free time, I like to go to documentary films, join non-profit walks/runs, and visit local expos on green living/design. I try to take an hour out of a day to brush up on Japanese or Spanish, or watch/read about marine life. I've also found a new hobby climbing at the rock gym. I have a passion for doing everything that interests me obviously! So I try to make time for it all..... so what's next?!
My Interest
Everything cause related. I have found that helping people, animals, or the environment in any way I can is my calling. I have always had a passion for continuously educating myself in any area or field.

Hello Amy, I just spontaniously twittered out the link to this Page - simply because I just Love your 'ACT' !! Smile.
I hope by doing so I can help u raise awareness of both the need to preserve the environment (stop the dominos) and clean up our acts, as well as the importance of following ur passion and living your dreams. Thank you for all the inspiration. I think you make the whole world feel like we hope there are many much such nice Women as you in the USA.
Okay-Since this is about ACT - and doing something for our causes, everyone please spread the message and help & show people why the beauty o/t Earth is so important to all of us .. every day.
I think with you along maybe we can all Climb a Little bit higher on this Wall??
I am going to do some good right away!
Hi Amy, "Thank you for being a Friend" ;-)
I read on your profile not only that you have a fun life over in California, but also -sorta- that we may share some of the same drives and inclinations. That is: you seem to be passionate about many things, just as long as they capture your imagination, etc
Cool to have you as a friend then !
Err-As for your questions about my profile story .... Hmm, what did I mean with the phrase "I am someone who analyses patterns and responds to their predictions ...." ??
Good question ! Naturally, I meant several things altogether, but lets start with explaining that its just what I am born to do, or at least seems to be something I am good at.
What I probably mean is that I find that if one observes things carefully -perhaps while taking distance from one's own emotional inclinations to instant judgement- there is a whole set of obvious things to see in the world around. Patterns emerge, things become predictable, .. in a way you could say-the future becomes visible, or at least the possibilities are open or not. I am not sure its a talent, or learned since Doctors learn how to read patterns from a person and have a prediction about what could be wrong.
In this case- I must say/warn knowledge empowers: I keep studying reading and stocking up on background information, after which knowledge brings power through the seeing of more emerging patterns.
If this is too vague for you, well I could give some practical examples: On a personal level there is this thing: Did you know that about 80% from a doctors knowledge on the possible disease of a patient is/should be derived from only the questions/conversation + the physical presentation of the patient? -> After this comes the physical exam and all the rest.
There are many more examples but I am unsure if I should mention them all. I might bore you!
That sad, maybe I should explain that often the "analysis" only resorts to a gut feeling. For instance: I was studying in International School in The Hague, when i had to chose a world nation as my main subject of study. In hindsight, I can say: at the time everyone was still hiped up (here in Europe) about the post cold-war peace dividend and most people there were looking to choose "american studies" and even japan. Realizing that generally speaking- Old Generals are inclined to fight the last war rather then the one that is really coming, I had a gut feeling everyone was missing the point grobly. See, the US was basicly leader and cause of the peace dividend, however by that time the result had been to invite India & China into the WTO. I Believe that was in 1999. Missing the point was that this meant that quietly 2.4 billion more consumers got free access to the world market. A Never before seen watershed in world economics, etc.
I can say that now: but really, i just chose China as my main subject just because of a gut feeling about this and the noteworthy fact of my flying across entire China on Y2K and noticing 2 things: 1) the Giant Smog likely to kill us in the future (it was nationwide even back then), 2) that China is even bigger than the US, in fact-i have never seen such a staggering place with so many people in my entire lifetime. Since the WTO membership just empowered them with roughly the same rights as us, the 1.2 billion down below were already changing literally the face of the Earth. See the signs, read the pattern - the Chinese were just warming up for what they were going to do next. You saw them reach "Man-hood" with the sensational Beijing Olympics (for which btw-the ancestors of 5000 years were seriously called upon to proclaim the new Beijing- ready for a new millenium of Chinese Power - as was done in 1420/21 when Beijing was opened as THE most glorious Capital in the entire world-26 heads of state from all over asia & the middle east attended).... Eh, Ok- i think u get it, they will do a lot more in the near future.
Ok-I hope that gives you a hunch at least.
As for my second claim to be "more interested in cooperation than competition", I think thats more simple and straightforward. The best thing I can say that is I feel there is at least 2 types of people - everyone knows about someone who "always wants to win". In fact, many people are really proud of it and don't mind saying publicly that they have this attitude. On my profile it just seemed fun to hint that I am exactly the opposite of that. Usually people who always want to win annoy me a lot. Often they seem a bit pathetic in their strive for ?/ self-glorification. Maybe they are insecure and need to prove to themselves that their not the losers they hold themselves for?? Always wanting to win at games seems even more rediculous to me, as in no way the outcome can be thAt important as to alter my entire future. well, i could g on.. but I will leave it at the statement that I only care to win if 1)it can enter my name in the annals of history and leave something worthwhile for coming generations, 2) if I can earn exceptional (preferably cash) money, 3) or when realizing my ambitious plans which -yes- mUst go through. Hmm, and 4) well, in the rare case someone does something bad which makes me want to eliminate them and do the world a favor. Luckily, since leaving the medical world I have been able to avoid being confronted with certain caracters so now I can focus on what I like most: not competition but cooperation.
Cooperation just means sharing things with eachother. In my case it just fun and worthwhile because if everything runs smoothly i get to travel a lot an be happy doing my thingsing the results online with the site visitors.
Cooperation to me also means having an open mind and attitude towards eachother. In The Netherlands we sued to "Live and let Live", which when done with respect has really great results. It is why for 200 years The Netherlands were the exclusive Western trading partner for Japan. In my case, i often really enjoy the results of travels from Netherlands to China, the shuttling between two entirely different culture "bubbles". I think ultimately the Chinese People share the same values and wishes as do people in the West. Only, because of their completely other history, culture and even geopgraphy/demographics,politics etc (Nl=16 million, China: 1.2 billion) anyone who wants these two cultures to communicate must practice a lot of patience and understanding. Among things: to know a People and understand their culture is to know their history. That is what I am here for to promote. Understanding through History and Culture. Its a Fun job ! Its also a job that keeps on growing in ambitions and possibilities. If possible, in the future we shall send out teams of students to various nations in Asia to Report on them as well. In this case they learn to work together with other cultures while encountering real world situations. Plus, they can be proudly part in the creation of something that can still be wortwhile/helpful in 200 years when we are all gone, etc. The whole world can enjoy their talents while they are at work. Seems like a good idea to me. Only, as you guessed-since I am the one who has to finance the whole bit -its sometimes a challenge and so far not sure how fast we can progress to that point. Some donations would be helpful....
Hmm-Ok, Ah, you also would like to see some video's. I totally agree. However, so far we have not but it is in the making. First of all, I am going to put Rose Wang (our E-Commerce Manager) on with a General Presentation of our plans (she is more fun to watch), in the second phase: I am planning to show myself on video, but-I feel that can only be properly done when I am on location in China. I am in the process of planning a giant treck through China visiting a variety of unusual places (great wall, minority villages, silk road, etc)-but I havent found time to figure out how to broadcast live form location using my Blackberry. If you have any tips on this point- can it be done, then let me know. It seemd to me it would be way cool to broadcast live+wireless from a remote location, and use the blackberry to film as well as twitter. Otherwise, maybe i may resort to helmet-cam since what i do involves a lot of photography, hiking and well.. maybe some climbing + bicycling in the Future. Trust me, bicycling in China is way cool plus often weird and dangerous. Haha..
Ok- hope to find out more of you!
I noticed you are on the causecast Team, so that makes me extra pleased. Can i ask? I see a pattern Ryan Scott, you in middle, with me for the EU. I would love to help bring you more attention in Europe, but so far-dont know what to do. Maybe next summer season whe should just put a causecast stand on the local cultural festival?? I think there is a lot of European people who didnt hear of Causecast yet. Would love to help change that...
If you by any chance come up with a Campaign Plan for a Causecast invasion of Europe, u can always ask me for support!
Meanwhile: you can always enjoy my latest ongoing work by following me on twitter where i am known as chinareportcom1. Hope u join so u wont miss out when i get the blackberry going somewhere on the silk road or great wall of China!
Hi Amy, yes I was at the mtg and I am a crazy dog lady :)
yup that was me! i was sitting at the door cuz we had so many events and i just wanted people to end up in the right place. how are you?
heyo! yeah, no worries--i'll def send you the notes i take :)
hajimemashite! i lived in japan for two years and loved it. wish i still remembered more japanese. and would love to go back and visit.
p.s. i love my quote too :)
Hi! Thanks for the comment. My films will be online after a year of festival circuits so my human trafficking film will be online in 2010. Festivals don't like it when you put stuff online because they want to be the only ones able to screen it so people would attend. Hopefully when I "make it" I don't have to worry about these rules anymore.
Great meeting you
hey hey - cause for comedy was funny :) you should check out the next one. sorry work's busier :/ but at least you get more of that money, right? i think it shows how many friends i recruited because i used the referral link as much as possible. i got the link by sending the referral email to myself. how your interior design stuff going?
